Essential Oils in the Mountains

We have been having a blast playing in the mountains this year. I thought I'd share a few of the oils and DIYs we like to bring with us when we're hiking, camping, picnicking, and having fun. It's always good to keep a little travel set when you are out and about. We've used ours a lot- from just cooling after a hot day to helping soothe skin that's been out in the elements.

Recommended Oils

    DIY's:

    Protective Lotion

    Ingredients:

    Directions:

    1. Add everything except zinc oxide in a medium bowl.
    2. Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and place over medium heat
    3. Place the glass bowl on top of the saucepan so that the saucepan is cradling the bowl.
    4. As the ingredients start to melt, stir occasionally to mix.
    5. When all ingredients are completely incorporated, add the zinc oxide and stir well to mix.
    6. Pour into a pint-sized tin or mason jar and store in a cool place. Use within six months.

    After Sun Skin Spray

    Ingredients:

    Directions:

    1. Add drops to 3 oz. water in a spray bottle.
    2. Shake to mix and lightly mist over skin.

    Ouch Spray

    Ingredients:

    Directions:

    1. Add drops to 3 oz. water in a spray bottle.
    2. Shake to mix and lightly mist over skin.

    Additional Tips:

    • Keep oils in a cool, dry place.
    • Bring Fractionated Coconut Oil with you for topical application.
    • Create roller blends and sprays for easy application.
    • Use keychain kits for portable travel.
    • Bears can be attracted to sweet smells such as Peppermint, if you are going into bear country, contact the forest service area to ask if Peppermint or other essential oils will be an issue during your stay.
