Running is an intense workout. In order to do it safely, preparation and recovery are just as important as the time you spend running. Essential oils can help you before, during, and after your run.
There is an entire line of doTERRA Deep Blue products, but Deep Blue Rub
might be your new best friend whether you are a an experienced runner or a novice. It combines Deep Blue Soothing Blend with a rich, moisturizing cream to deliver a soothing and cooling sensation that lasts. If you are prone to muscle discomfort during or after a run, apply Deep Blue Rub to those areas before you start and then again after you finish.
You can also try any of the following essential oils for a post workout massage: Lemongrass, Siberian Fir, Wintergreen, Frankincense, Deep Blue Soothing Blend. Dilute with fractionated coconut oil to cover a larger area or if skin sensitivity is a concern.
When running, it is important to breathe in plenty of oxygen to keep your body well supplied. A few minutes before you head out the door or jump on that treadmill, rub 3-5 drops of Breathe onto your chest for a feeling of clear airways and easy breathing. Peppermint is a great alternative and will provide a similar effect.
After working out, drink 16oz of water with 4 drops of Lemon added. It will replenish your body and the fresh aroma will invigorate you.
A run will always be better when you are getting adequate rest. Diffuse Lavender at bedtime to promote peaceful sleep. You can also add a few drops to a cotton ball and slip in under your pillow. Serenity Calming Blend is an alternative that incorporates several sleep promoting essential oils.
