DIY Scented Pencils & Erasers for Back to School

Just in time for back to school, did you know you can make scented pencils and erasers using essential oils? It works great! How fun to send off the kids with pencils smelling like their favorite calming, uplifting, grounding, or focus boosting blend.

There are are couple of different ways to make these and both are super easy. First, use non-toxic, natural wood, or recycled paper pencils, and non-toxic erasers.

The first method is to add 20-30 drops of essential oil to a cotton pad and put it and your pencils and erasers in a plastic zipper bag.  Wait for a couple days and open the bag and your pencils and erasers will smell like whatever oil you placed on the cotton pad. The longer you keep it in the bag, the stronger the scent. You can add more drops after a day or so for maximum effect.

The second method works faster but has some limitations. Just find a bowl big enough to cover your pencils with water. Add 20-30 drops of essential oil to the water and mix through the pencils. Cover the bowl and let sit for 3-5 hours. Remove the pencils and erasers from the water and let dry. The only thing to remember is not to use citrus with this method if your pencils or erasers have any plastic as it will dissolve them. You also can't use recycled newspaper pencils with the soaking method.

Head over to my shop and download some printable pencil tags to go with your newly scented pencils. Great for a back to school party or to share the pencils as gifts.
