8 Tips for No Stress Party Planning

I Heart Oils 8 Tips for No Stress Party Planning

Entertaining your friends and family can be a truly rewarding experience. It can also be an experience wrought with anxiety. The good news is that you can host an amazing event that your guests will love without making yourself crazy. Here are 8 tips for no stress party planning.

1. Keep it simple. Obvious, right? But it can be so easy to overcomplicate things when you are hosting a party. (Especially if you are a Pinterest fan!) This rule applies to all aspects of your event - decorations, table settings, food, guest list, entertainment. You don't need 6 appetizers, 3 main course options, and a dessert bar. How about a big pot of soup staying warm in a slow cooker with some hearty bread for dipping? Sounds wonderful to me.

2. Make lists of everything you need to pull off your party. Not just items you need to purchase, but also items you need to collect from around the house, and things you need to do to make the magic happen. As the event gets closer, it helps so much to have it all written down (on paper or electronically) so you can simply check items off the list.

3. Start early and set a schedule. A lot of stress comes from simply putting things off until they become a crisis. Nobody wants to be in crisis mode when they are hosting a party. Since you have made lists of what you need to do, you can easily set a schedule to get it all done. What can be done a month ahead, a week ahead, the day before, etc.? Look online for party planning checklists that include schedules. There are tons of options. No need to reinvent the wheel on this one.

4. Set a budget and stick to it. You will not enjoy your party prep or the actual party to the fullest, if you are stressed about spending more than you wanted to or could afford. Shopping online can be helpful when working on a budget. I find I'm more likely to pick up a few extra items when I am at a store. And bonus, if you do as much of the shopping as you can online, it will cut down on the running around town which can be a source of stress particularly during the crazy holiday shopping season.

5. Diffuse or apply oils and blends that promote feelings of calm and peace. This is a great tip for the planning and preparation phases as well as during the actual party. If you are out running errands for your event, use diffuser jewelry or a portable usb diffuser to take the tranquility on the road. Wild OrangeGeraniumBalance Grounding Blend, and Peace Reassuring Blend are excellent choices. Our roller bottle blends found at the end of this article are perfect for slipping in your purse for on-the-go use.

6. Do everything you can ahead of time.  Are there items you can make weeks in advance and freeze? What will keep in the fridge for a couple of days? Don't choose recipes that require a lot of last minute effort. Put up decorations and set your table or buffet the day before. That's a big one for me. If I get the table set and decorations placed ahead of time whether its a dinner party, Thanksgiving dinner, or a Christmas brunch, it takes most of the stress out of the day for me. It's like magic!

7. Accept and/or request help. When your guests offer to bring something, take them up on it. And if they don't offer, ask them. Food is usually the easiest thing to have someone bring. Maybe you have a showstopper main dish or dessert you can't wait to make, so ask others to bring a salad, bread, drinks, etc. There are other ways that guests can contribute. Maybe your music loving friend can create a playlist for the party or have a couple of guests bring party games.

8. Remember that "Pinterest perfect" is not the goal. A get together is primarily about spending time with those you love. Don't get caught up in trying to have the trendiest decor or food. Focus on creating a warm and comfortable environment for your guests. Be welcoming, genuine, and present and your party will be a success.
