Essential Oil Notebook: Thyme

Thyme essential oil is extracted from the leaf of the plant using steam distillation. It's smell is warm, herbaceous, and floral. The main chemical component is thymol.

Anciently it was used as a symbol of courage and bravery. It was often placed beneath pillows to ward off bad dreams.

Thyme is great for cleansing and has a purifying effect on the skin (dilute with a carrier). It can help stimulate the mind, strengthen memory, and calm nerves. It has broad-spectrum activity in promoting winter-time health. In other words, use this oil to stay healthy during the winter months and for common health issues that arise during the season.

Emotionally, thyme is a great oil for cleansing trapped emotions and encouraging forgiveness. Specific emotions this oil can help with are anger, rage, hate, and bitterness. It helps transform them into forgiveness and love.
