You would think with all our technological advances and machines that do almost everything for us, we should be accomplishing everything on our to-do lists and have plenty of time for all the things that we enjoy. Maybe that's working out for you, but not for me. I regularly fall behind and all that great technology can end up providing way too many distractions. Here are a few tips for becoming more productive.
When you want to accomplish something, put down the phone. Perhaps you should turn off the sound or notifications and then put it down so it doesn't draw you back in so easily. Browsing social media or playing your favorite game can eat up hours of your day. You will be amazed at how much time you get back by spending less time on your phone or other favorite device. Use InTune Focus Blend to give yourself a little extra help staying unplugged. There are apps that can set limits on your social media consumption if you need the extra encouragement.
Get Enough Sleep
Seems counterintuitive to sleep more if you want to get more done, right? If you are sleeping you are definitely not crossing items off your to-do list. However, studies show that if you are not getting adequate sleep, productivity decreases. Adults should be getting at least seven hours of sleep each night. Eight or nine hours is even better. Before bed, diffuse rest promoting essential oils like Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Bergamot, and Lemongrass.* You can also rub them on your feet or use them for herbal tea. Also, POWER NAPS! I hear from so many people that when they can a quick 10-15 minute power nap can really help boost productivity during the day.
Meditation is not just beneficial while you are in the act of meditating. It teaches you to focus your mind. By practicing this skill, you will be able to apply that focus when you are trying to accomplish tasks. Meditation can help you reduce stress which can also lead to increased productivity. Take a few minutes each day to meditate. There are several guided meditation apps available that make it super easy to get started. Diffuse grounding oils like Balance Grounding Blend, Cedarwood, or Frankincense.
Plan It & Document It
If you want to accomplish something, the simple act of writing it down increases your odds of getting it done. Entering it into a organization or list app in your phone works to. Take it a little farther by writing down specific steps. Take a few minutes in the evening before bed to plan your next day. I've heard it said that when you do this, YOU run your day rather than your DAY running you. Sounds better. Keep track of how you accomplished your goals and apply your learnings to make yourself even more productive in the future. Check out our Rock Your Goals Roller Bottle Blend to see how Wild Orange, Rosemary, Peppermint, Roman Chamomile, and Cedarwood can help.
Exercising increases endorphins which can make you happy. A happy and positive attitude goes a long way towards being productive. It also increases your energy levels over time. The best part is that while you are exercising to increase productivity, you are increasing your overall health at the same time. To help you get going, inhale Peppermint for increased energy and focus or add Slim and Sassy Metabolic Blend to your water (use a metal or glass bottle) to boost metabolism and increase energy.*
When you are in a mid-day slump, get up and move your body. A quick walk around the block, or some jumping jacks can revive your day. Even if you can't leave your desk, or need to be a little more subtle about things, try some stretching.
What are your tips for increasing productivity? Essential oils definitely help me to keep my mind on task. I've got a "desk set" of favorites that I rely on all day long.
